Soccer is the fastest-growing sport for private coaching in the U.S. Club and travel soccer have exploded, and parents are investing in private training to give their kids an edge. That's great news for your business — but you need to price it right.
The average private soccer coach charges $45–$95 per 60-minute session in 2026. Soccer rates run slightly lower than basketball because field access is cheaper than gym time, but the trade-off is weather cancellations and seasonal demand swings. Here's how to set your rate.
What Affects Soccer Coaching Rates?
Field access costs are your biggest advantage over gym-sport coaches. Public parks and school fields are often free or very cheap. Indoor turf facilities run $50–$100/hour during winter months — that's when your margins get squeezed the most.
Credentials and playing background carry weight with soccer parents. A USSF D license, college playing experience, or a track record coaching competitive club teams lets you charge at the top of the range. Parents in the soccer world check credentials more than in most sports.
Seasonal demand is a bigger factor in soccer than most sports. Peak training season runs August–November (fall season) and February–May (spring season). Summer camps fill the gap for many coaches. December and January are typically the slowest months.
Per Session vs. Package Pricing for Soccer
Packages work especially well for soccer because skill development is cumulative. A player won't transform their weak foot or first touch in a single session. When clients buy 4- or 8-session packages, they commit to the process and you get reliable income.
Typical soccer package structure:
- 4-session package: 5–10% discount (e.g., $250 instead of $270)
- 8-session package: 10–15% discount (e.g., $470 instead of $540)
- Season package (12 sessions): 15% discount, paid upfront — locks in the client for an entire season
Season packages are uniquely effective in soccer because they align with the club schedule. Offer them at the start of fall and spring seasons when parents are already in "investment mode."
Specialty Sessions: GK, Finishing, Technical Work
Goalkeeper training is the most valuable specialization in soccer coaching. There are fewer GK-specific coaches, and the demand is consistent. GK sessions command a 10–20% premium over field player rates because of the specialized expertise and extra equipment required.
Finishing and shooting sessions are another high-demand specialty, especially before tryout season. Parents will pay premium rates for a coach who can help their kid score more goals before a make-or-break tryout.
Technical skills (dribbling, first touch, passing) are your bread-and-butter sessions. They work for all ages and positions, which means consistent demand year-round. Price these at your standard rate.
What to Charge by Age Group
Ages 6–9 (recreational): $35–$55/session. Sessions should be 30–45 minutes max. Parents are introducing their kids to the sport. Keep it fun and foundational.
Ages 10–13 (competitive/club): $50–$75/session. This is the sweet spot for private soccer coaching. Players are joining travel teams and parents see training as an investment. Full 60-minute sessions with structured skill progressions.
Ages 14–18 (high school/elite club): $65–$100/session. These athletes are training seriously. Some are targeting college scholarships. Parents at this level are already spending $3,000–$8,000/year on club fees and are willing to add private training to the budget.
