How We Calculate Your Coaching Rate

Our calculator uses real market data across six sports to give you a personalized rate recommendation. Here's what goes into the math:

Sport-Specific Base Rates

Every sport has different market expectations. Tennis and baseball coaches typically command higher per-session rates than volleyball or soccer coaches, largely because of facility costs and equipment requirements. Our base rates reflect 2026 market averages for 60-minute private sessions in mid-size cities.

Experience Premium

Coaches with 5+ years of experience command a 25% premium over the market average. If you're in your first two years, your rate will be about 20% below the midpoint — but that's normal. You'll raise it as you build your reputation and client base.

Market Size Adjustment

A basketball coach in New York City can charge 30% more than the same coach in a small town. Our calculator adjusts for cost of living and local demand by market size: rural areas, mid-size cities, and major metros.

Session Type and Length

Private 1:1 sessions are your highest per-hour rate. Small group sessions (2-4 athletes) earn less per head but more overall per hour. We factor in session length too — a 90-minute session commands a premium, while a 30-minute session is discounted relative to the hourly rate.
